Rodent woes no more!

September 25th, 2008 · Comments · hardware

Until yesterday I had been suffering with three fundamentally flawed mice :

  1. Vaio Bluetooth Laser – Bundled with my Vaio AR series and doesn’t require a separate receiver.  However it devours batteries at an alarming rate, bluetooth pairing took too long, and has the look and feel of the starship enterprise.
  2. Mouse from a Microsoft Wireless Desktop kit – Inaccurate on most surfaces and far too bulky for mobile work. The receiver is also larger than most mice, which kind of defeats the object of having a wireless mouse…
  3. Ancient Dell mouse – A revolution when most mice had balls… Now clunky, inaccurate and wired.

I recently purchased a Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse and have been blown away with its accuracy, comfort and build quality. The nano receiver is microscopic, protruding just 5mm outside of the USB port!

The scroll wheel mode can be pressed to switch between two separate modes. One has very little friction and can spin for ages with a single flick, making it simple to navigate through large documents or the web. The other provides tactile feedback, for a more controlled regular click-scroll.

There are five programmable mouse buttons and a battery life indicator. According to the SetPoint software, two AAA batteries will last 170 days!

The VX Nano comes highly recommended for anyone looking for new mouse, either for desktop or mobile use.
